López Obrador said in recent days that he wanted to launch the decree on May 1, so that it would be on par with Labor Day. For this reason, he advanced the ‘gift’ that he gave to Mexican workers to compensate for pensions and so that those people who only have their Afore can retire with 100 percent of their latest income.

This initiative was controversial, as it was rejected by the opposition parties, that is, the PRI, PAN, PRD and Movimiento Ciudadano, who accused that this measure was a “robbery” of the savings of people over 70 years of age. However, It was approved by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. due to the majority that Morena and its allies have.

The reform indicates that for the creation resources would be taken from inactive savings accounts of older adults 70 years old, which could only affect 5.5 percent of savers’ accounts, a measure that was supported by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) and the Mexican Association of Afores.

For the creation of this fund, the profits will also be considered from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and the Maya Train.

It is expected that with the Pension Fund for Wellbeing pensions are completed of the workers. That is, if at the time you retire with the money from your retirement savings you receive about 40 percent of your salary, this ‘seed’ fund will support you with the complement so that it is 100 percent or as close as possible to your last income.
