Rio de Janeiro is the fourth unit of the Federation with the most renegotiated contracts in Desenrola Fies, a federal government program run by the Ministry of Education, through the National Education Development Fund (FNDE), aimed at people with debts related to the Education Fund. Student Financing (Fies). The numbers are part of the FNDE’s most recent balance sheet, with program data up to the first week of April.

The State registered 15,325 contracts signed under the program, which accounted for a renegotiated debt balance of R$730.1 million. With the entry values ​​for the renegotiations of these contracts, the return to the public coffers exceeds R$36.3 million.

Across the country, Desenrola Fies has already benefited more than 253 thousand people. The renegotiations refer to contracts signed until 2017 and with debts on June 30, 2023. To date, R$11.51 billion in debts have been renegotiated, resulting in a subsequent debt balance of around R$2.18 billion. With the down payment alone, the federal government raised R$475.6 million. Discounts on many renegotiations reach 99%.
