The increase in demand for electrical energy Due to the high temperatures, it caused blackouts in various entities of the country, including the State of Mexico, Tabasco, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, Guanajuato, Chiapas, Tamaulipas, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Querétaro and CDMX, to name a few.
The National Energy Control Center (CENACE) published this Tuesday two Emergency Operational Status alerts.
The first of them began at 5:04 p.m. and ended at 5:52 p.m., while the second alert of the day, CENACE reported, began at 7:10 p.m.; however, until 10 p.m. this Tuesday.
One of the main objectives of these alerts is to inform Mexicans if, at any time, the National Electric System (SEN) enters an Emergency Operational State, which can lead to blackouts or power outages throughout the country.
Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz, candidate for the presidency of Mexico by the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition questioned, through its ‘X’ account, whether the blackouts in multiple cities in the country were due to a national emergency or criminal negligence.
“I have said it and I repeat it: in my government we are going to have clean, cheap and sufficient energy,” he indicated.
While, Rosanety Barrios, energy coordinator of the Xóchitl Gálvez campaignindicated that the blackouts are a reflection of a lack of investment in electrical transmission, as well as a late and opaque investment in electrical generation plants.
“The National Electrical System is under extreme stress. The current demand cannot be met, so scheduled cuts must be made,” he reacted to the emergency alerts issued by CENACE.
Arturo Carranza, specialist in the energy sectorexplained that the operating states are issued by CENACE regulations, and have the purpose of notifying users of the conditions under which the SEN operates.
“The high temperatures that are being recorded in some regions of the country are leading to an increase in electricity demand, which in turn stresses the system. To achieve conditions of reliability and safety in the operation, CENACE issues these operational alert states. or emergency, which are accompanied by other actions to reduce stress,” said Carranza.
However, he clarified that, technically, no one can predict a blackout. “The truth is that, given the high temperatures, we must wait for CENACE to make decisions to guarantee the reliable and safe supply of electrical energy,” he noted.
