River – Fernando Diniz he didn’t hide his happiness when talking about Thiago Silva’s return to Fluminense. In an interview after the 1-0 victory over Colo-Colo, this Thursday, the 9th, the coach classified the defender’s return as a gift for Tricolor and for Brazilian football. Furthermore, he highlighted how the defender managed to maintain his level despite being 39 years old.

“I think he is a gift for Fluminense and a gift for Brazilian football as well. He is, in my opinion, one of the great players of the last 15, 20 years of international football. He can play at a high level to this day, a impressive regularity. The last World Cup he played was perhaps his best. He was, perhaps, the best player in Brazil, one of the best in the World Cup in my opinion”, said Diniz.

“So, we will be able to count on an international level player today. He managed to preserve his performance despite his age. He is a great example”, he added.

Fluminense made the signing of Thiago Silva official at the beginning of the week. The defender will leave Chelsea at the end of the 2023/24 season, just when his contract with the Blues comes to an end. He will therefore defend Flu from the second half of this year. The link with the Laranjeiras club runs until June 2026.
