Diver Gaby Agúndez obtains protection to recover her scholarship – El Financiero

The diver Gabriela Agúndez is one of the Mexican athletes who, despite not having Conade scholarshipgot his ticket for the Olympic Games. Now she has one more reason to celebrate because she won a lawsuit against Conade and obtained the protection that will allow her to recover that scholarship that was withdrawn due to the conflicts of the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN).

In Paris 2024Agúndez will achieve the goal of competing for the second time in the Olympic Games and is one of the athletes who are excited about the possibility of returning to the country with a medal, as she did in Tokyo 2020, when, together with Alejandra Orozco, she obtained the bronze in synchronized diving.

Like other water sports athletes, such as the artistic swimming team that sold swimsuits, Agúndez required greater support from sponsorships to cover the expenses of the preparation. In February, before obtaining a place at the Olympics, he complained about the lack of support: “The situation has been complicated since last year when they took away our scholarships. That affects our preparation for Paris 2024 and Not having that support does make our path more difficult.l.”

What happened to Gaby Agúndez’s lawsuit against Conade?

When the scholarship Gaby Agúndez was retired, both she and her trampoline partner, Alejandra Orozco, contemplated the possibility of auctioning their Olympic medals to obtain resources. Among so many difficulties on his way to Paris, this Friday, the legal process that he initiated against Conade was resolved in his favor.

According to documents obtained by Reforma district judge in administrative matters from Mexico City decided to “protect and protect” the athlete so that she receives “the scholarship and incentives” that she deserves for the results obtained in the World swimming championshipwhich took place in Fukuoka, Japan in the middle of last year.

The document published by said source establishes that The resolution has immediate effects and is retroactiveso Agúndez will receive the pending payments since the withdrawal of the scholarship.

Why doesn’t Conade support aquatic athletes?

The head of the Conade, Ana Gabriela Guevarahas reiterated that this is not a problem for Conade but rather a legal conflict: “My heart hurts at not being able to give them what they deserve,” he says.

From 2022, Guevara announced the withdrawal of scholarships and sports support for athletes in these various aquatic disciplines due to the conflict between the Mexican Swimming Federation and the Reorganizing Commission imposed by World Aquatics.

Then, last August, Conade determined to remove the Single Sports Registry from the FMN as a result of the link to the process of Kirill Todorovpresident of the federation, and the withdrawal of the endorsement of the World Aquatics for the same reasons.

In February, the president of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM), María José Alcalá He said he did not know the reasons why aquatic athletes were still not receiving the corresponding scholarships.
