The Mexico City broke the historical record for high temperatures This Thursday, May 9, being the hottest day in the history of the country’s capital since it has been recorded with a maximum of 34.3 degrees.

The record of 34.3 degrees this Thursday surpasses the 34.2 recorded last Monday, April 15, when after 26 years the 1998 record had been broken.

The high temperature was recorded by the Tacubaya observatory, as reported by the Meteorological Service of the National Water Commission (Conagua).

The difference between the heat records reported in Mexico recently

Mexico has had four important days in terms of high temperature records, being one of the years with the most high temperature records while two heat waves have occurred.

  • Heat record for April 15: This day the anniversary, month and historical record was broken, being, until before this Thursday, the hottest day of the year, with 34.2 degrees, with April 15 being the hottest, the warmest day of all Aprils, and the warmest day in general since records have been kept.
  • Heat record for May 7: Another anniversary record was broken on Tuesday, in which 33.4 degrees were reported, making May 7 the hottest and above the 33 degrees of the same day in 2003.
  • Heat record for May 9: This Thursday, an anniversary, monthly record and all records were broken, including that of April 15, reaching 33.4 degrees. Curiously, the new heat record occurs on May 9, the same date as the 1998 record that stood for almost 26 years.
