Dow Jones gains 0.06% this Thursday; BMV on the rise – El Financiero

The main Wall Street indices closed, this Thursday, April 18, with the mixed boards: the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 in the red and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gave a slight respite.

At the close of the day, the Nasdaq Composite presented the steepest drop, by 0.52 percent, to 15,601.50 points; The S&P 500 fell 0.22 percent to 5,011.12 points, and the Industrial Average Dow Jones made an advance from 0.06 percent to 37 thousand 775.38 units.

Both the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 added five sessions with falls consecutively, for the first time since January of this year and October of last year, respectively.

The negative streak occurs amid restrictive comments by members from the Fed. In this Thursday’s session, the president of the New York Fed, John Williams, spoke, saying that there is no rush to reduce the interest rate.

While Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said the Fed should be patient in cutting interest rates until they are convinced inflation is headed toward the 2 percent target, which could be as late as 2025. .

“Williams and Kashkari’s comments are considered extremely restrictive and they are because US economic activity remains strong. Initial applications for unemployment support in the United States for the second week of April stood at 212 thousand, unchanged from last week’s level,” highlighted Banco Base.


The price of crude oil shows falls. WTI has a loss of 0.22 percent to $82.51 per barrel and Brent falls 0.50 percent to $86.85.

In Europe, the boards also closed with profits. The Ibex of Spain advanced 1.23 percent; France’s CAC 40, 0.52 percent, and Germany’s Dax, 0.45 percent.

BMV and BIVA with advances

In contrast, in Mexico the BMV CPI showed an advance of 0.58 percent to 55,739.43 points and the FTSE BIVA gained 0.50 percent, to 1,141.80 units, breaking a four-session downward streak.
