Guapimirim – A man, identified as Yago Henrique Ulrich Mendes Ferreira, was arrested in the Paiol neighborhood, in Guapimirim, Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, after running over cyclist Josinaldo Pereira de Lima and fleeing the scene without providing proper assistance. The capture took place this Saturday (20), hours after the accident, in a joint action between civil police officers from the 67th DP (Guapimirim) and the 60th DP (Campos Elísios).
According to investigations, the victim was riding a bicycle on the shoulder of KM 112 of BR-116 (Rodovia Rio-Teresópolis), near the Jardim Guapimirim neighborhood, when he was run over by Yago Ferreira’s car.
After investigations and analysis of images from monitoring cameras spread throughout Guapimirim, the agents, in an action coordinated by the delegate of the 67th DP (Guapimirim), Fabrício Costa, and the deputy delegate of the 60th DP (Campos Elísios), Jan Mertens, located the address of the person who caused the accident and arrested him at his residence.
The car was seized during police action for forensic examination and its front part was dented.
In a statement to the 67th DP (Guapimirim), Yago Ferreira confessed to having consumed alcohol during a party in Piabetá, in the neighboring municipality of Magé, and that he did not provide assistance to Josinaldo Lima for “fear of reprisal”.
Subsequently, the driver was taken to the 60th DP (Campos Elísios), where the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police Flagrant Center operates, and charged with intentional homicide with possible intent. Your arrest in the act may be converted into preventive detention.
Intentional homicide is when there is intent to kill. In the case in question, it was for drunk driving, something prohibited by law.
In preventive detention, the accused remains in jail for as long as the Court deems necessary to prevent escape and/or to avoid compromising the investigations.
