Elections in CDMX: Second #DebateChilango

There is not much time left until the elections and the candidates know it. In CDMX, last Sunday, April 21, the #ChilangoDebate was held that reached almost 68.5 million people, with more than 12 different trends in X during the year.

Although there was a difference in mentions, in general Santiago Taboada and Clara Brugada had a similar reach in digital media. The first had nearly 228 thousand mentions and a reach of 49.5 million people, while the second obtained 194 thousand mentions and almost 49 million people reached. Salomón Chertorivski, although he obtained many fewer mentions, about 24 thousand, had a very good reach, more than 38.7 million.

Already in matters of perception the difference is greater. Santiago Taboada did quite well, since the attitude of the socio-digital audience was 60 percent positive. Social media users used the hashtags # GanóElCambio, #JefeTaboada and #ElCambioViene to show their support and affirm that he won the debate by pointing out Morena’s errors and positioning proposals. They consider that he demonstrated confidence and mastery of the topics discussed and that he sent a message of optimism and hope.

On the negative side, social networks pointed out that the PAN member is an arrogant candidate and that he did not respond to the accusations about the “Real Estate Cartel”, who had allegedly even asked that the issue not be discussed and finally said that he seeks to privatize the city’s water. CDMX.

Clara Brugada didn’t do so well. The attitude was mostly negative, 73 percent. Among the main criticisms of the candidate, they mentioned her relationship with René Bejarano and the issue of water, which has not been resolved in 27 years. Internet users considered that she does not have the moral authority to talk about the issue of water, since Iztapalapa is the mayor’s office with the greatest shortage. They also complained that she had promised to solve the liquid supply problems and that she did not present clear proposals to solve it. They also highlighted that the Citizen Movement candidate reminded her that the party she represents has not managed to eradicate corruption and that Mexico City is the most corrupt nationally. Likewise, they highlighted the proposal to create a reform for the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office to put an end to what the networks call: “carnal prosecutors.”

27 percent of positive mentions celebrated that Brugada confronted Santiago Taboada with issues such as the “real estate cartel” and the Libertad union mafia, allegedly in charge of extorting construction companies. They used the hashtag #GanamosConClara to point out that he won the debate and that it demonstrated his ability and congruence. They also highlighted the 20 points of their Water Plan for CDMX.

Finally, Salomón Chertorivski was almost 50-50 in relation to attitude on social networks. 49 percent applauded him, as they consider that he was the most consistent candidate during the debate and that he focused on proposals and demonstrated his preparation to be Head of Government. They agreed that citizens are fed up with electoral propaganda and that therefore it should be prohibited. They point out that he is the only one who has spoken about the labor rights of employees in the City and celebrated that he attacked the other two candidates in some cases. One for the “real estate cartel” and the official party for corruption in the country.

Regarding criticism, 51 percent point out that the candidate was supposedly ignored during the debate, that his proposals are unviable in that he did not make it clear where he would obtain funds to implement them. They also made memes with their party’s electoral propaganda and finally mentioned that he participated in the theft of resources for the reconstruction of the city after the 2017 earthquake, during the Government of Miguel Ángel Mancera.

Like any debate, attacks end up being more relevant than proposals for social networks. However, on water issues, citizens are waiting for concrete solutions or at least for one of the candidates to point out strong education and prevention measures in its care.
