Europeans: who is Saidali Boina Hamissi, the controversial Mahorais candidate of the National Rally?

A thorny profile. After the formalization of his candidacy in the European elections on the list of the National Rally (RN), the Mahorais member of the party Saidali Boina Hamissi drew the wrath of two ministers this Tuesday.

In question, according to the Minister Delegate for Overseas Marie Guévenoux, the candidate’s admiration for Vladimir Putin and his “support” for polygamy. The government spokesperson, Prisca Thévenot, for her part criticized his adherence to “conspiracy theories”, as well as his “extremely serious and dangerous remarks towards women on the supposed submission of women in relation to their spouses”.

These controversial opinions, Saidali Hamissi posted them on his Facebook account, accessible to the public, as revealed Release this Monday. On its feed, the newspaper notes in particular hateful remarks towards Comorians, described as “vermin” and “cockroaches” in a September 2022 publication.

In 2017, the man, an engineer by training, relayed already a publication calling to “kill” “this shit” of illegal immigrants living in Mayotte, accompanied by an image supporting Marine Le Pen for the presidential election, a Celtic cross, and the image of a woman with a pistol.

Misogynistic or conspiratorial comments

The 63-year-old man is also singled out for several misogynistic comments. One of its publications maintains, for example, that “a woman’s submission comes naturally when she feels loved, protected and valued (sic) by her husband”, explains Libération, which also highlights the presence of several jokes on polygamy.

Another disturbing element: the presence of conspiratorial speeches with pan-Africanist overtones on his feed. “There is no Islamic terrorism. These are mercenaries recruited, paid, trained, armed and protected by Western governments, notably those of the US and France. So, we can validly talk about Western international terrorism in Africa,” we can read under a video shared by the RN activist.

Also showing himself to be anti-vaccine against Covid-19, Saidali Hamissi is committed against the implementation of the health pass in 2021 and relays, again according to Libération, videos of the conspiratorial figure Richard Boutry.

Like other members of his party, Saidali Hamissi expresses admiration for Vladimir Putin, praising “his strength and his character”, and estimatinglike the Russian president, that France “will become in twenty years the colony of its former colonies”.

Member of the National Rally since 2017, Saidali Hamissi is the first Mahorais to campaign in the European elections on a far-right party list, recalls Outremer 1st.

It was during a trip to Mayotte that Marine Le Pen formalized the presence of Saidali Hamissi on the list led by Jordan Bardella for the European elections, “probably in an ineligible position, unless the voters decide otherwise”. “It is a signal especially which is launched in Mayotte, to say for the first time historically, there is a candidate from Mayotte who will enter” on a list, she greeted Saturday on Outremer 1re.
