An ammunition explosion at a military base in the province of Kampong Speu, southern Cambodia, on Saturday afternoon, killed 20 soldiers, Prime Minister Hun Mantet said in a post on social media, expressing himself “deeply moved” by the news .
Cambodia, like many countries in the region, suffered a severe heat wave. The province where the explosion occurred recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius this Saturday.
The first information shows that even if high temperatures cannot detonate ammunition, they can, in turn, degrade the stability of the explosives for a while, trigger a small explosion and progress to a larger fire.
