Fernando Fernández García, former local deputy and former mayor of Ixtapaluca, was killed with firearms when he was aboard his car this Wednesday afternoon.
Versions indicate that the politician was intercepted by at least six individuals who were riding motorcycles when he was in the José de la Mora neighborhood, in the community of Ayotla.
The attack occurred around 4:00 p.m., when Fernández García was passing on Nicolás Bravo Streetin a school zone.
Other versions indicate that the attack took place at 3:30 p.m., and that at least three motorcycles participated.
At the scene of the homicide, where elements of the municipal police and the Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Mexicoat least 10 shell casings were found.
Sources indicated that emergency personnel who arrived at the scene tried to provide first aid, but due to multiple gunshot wounds, he died at the scene moments after the attack.
Reports from local police indicate that a person who was apparently traveling with the exedil was also injured, who was transferred to a hospital in the area.
Fernando Fernández García was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), with whom he held several management positions. He was mayor of Ixtapaluca in the period 1997-2000 and later a local deputy.
So far there are no people arrested or identified who have participated in the murder of the PRI politiciandespite local authorities allegedly implementing an extensive police operation to detect the hitmen.
On the other hand, versions indicate that after the attack it is presumed that the attackers were captured by the video surveillance equipment installed in the area.
PRI leaders, through their social networks, regretted the events and asked for the facts to be clarified and justice to be done.
The politician’s crime occurs almost 48 hours after the start of the campaigns to renew the 125 mayoralties in the State of Mexico. Furthermore, on Tuesday, April 23, the candidate for the Citizen Movement Arturo Lara suffered an attack in his home in Amanalco.
