First responders extinguish apartment fire Monday near Hover Street

The Longmont Fire Department extinguished an apartment fire on Monday evening on 14th Avenue near Hover Street.

According to Longmont Public Safety spokesperson Robin Ericson, at 7:06 p.m. Monday, police responded to a structure fire at 2201 14th Ave. The fire was contained to the balcony on the third floor, then crews worked to clear the smoke from the rest of the floor. After investigating, first responders determined the fire was caused by the disposal of smoking material in an “unapproved container.”

There were no injuries due to the fire, but occupants of the unit where the fire began are no longer able to occupy it, Ericson said in an email. Other residents in the building were cleared to stay.
