Rio – Flamengo took the lead in the Brazilian Championship and left a taboo behind. The victory over São Paulo 2-1, this Wednesday (17), at Maracanã, put Rubro-Negro at the top with six points in two rounds. The last time the club occupied first place was in the 38th round of the 2020 edition, the year in which it won the eighth title in its history.

In the last Brasileirão round of 2020, Flamengo faced São Paulo. The score was the same, 2-1, but in favor of the Morumbi team, which had control of the field at the time. During this period, there were 115 rounds played in the points competition.

Even with the defeat in the last match of that season, the Gávea club, which was led by Rogério Ceni, currently at Bahia, won the title due to the 0-0 draw between Internacional and Corinthians.

At the top of the leaderboard after two games, Flamengo now focuses on the duel with Palmeiras. The match will be away from home, at Allianz Parque, on Sunday (21), at 4pm.
