Rio – Flamengo had a very good start to the season in which they beat Carioca undefeated and with few scares. However, outside of duels for the competition, Rubro-Negro has not been able to maintain the same sovereignty against its rivals and saw its performance plummet in 2024.
In Carioca, counting the two games they played with a team full of young people, Flamengo won 37 points out of 45 possible. With an 82.2% success rate, Rubro-Negro won the competition undefeated and conceded just one goal, which was scored in a match with its youth team.
However, in the matches for the Brasileirão and Libertadores, Flamengo’s performance worsened significantly. In total, there were seven games with three wins, two draws and two defeats. The success of the locals is 52.3% between the two competitions.
The defensive system is probably the sector that best explains this difference. In the last six matches, Flamengo conceded six goals, four in the last two games. Furthermore, Rubro-Negro came up empty in two of the last three clashes.
