Rio – Current Libertadores champion, Fluminense takes a new step towards the second championship this Thursday (25). Tricolor meets Cerro Porteño, from Paraguay, at 7pm (Brasília time), in Asunción, and defends the writing of never having lost official games against the Paraguayans.
Fluminense and Cerro Porteño have had a rivalry over the last 15 years. It all started in 2009. In the midst of the fight against relegation in the Brasileirão, the Team de Guerreiros eliminated the Paraguayans in the semifinals of the South American Championship. Maracanã was the scene of a pitched battle in the return match.
In 2021, Fluminense and Cerro Porteño met again in the round of 16 of the Libertadores. Tricolor came out on top once again and advanced to the quarterfinals — where they would be eliminated by Barcelona de Guayaquil, from Ecuador. In total, there are four official games and four victories for the tricolors.
In addition to the four official games, Fluminense and Cerro Porteño faced each other in a friendly in 1964. The duel was held at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium and ended in a 2-2 draw. On this stage, Tricolor added two eliminations to Olimpia, but recently eliminated same opponent in the title campaign.

The reunion is worth the lead in Group A. With the goalless draw between Colo-Colo, from Chile, and Alianza Lima, from Peru, in Santiago, Fluminense remained in the lead. Tricolor plays for a draw to remain at the top of the table. In case of defeat, Cerro Porteño takes first place.
