Rio – Suspended since March 25th, Gabigol, 27 years old, will have to wait until the turn of April to May to have any news about the suspensive effect requested by his defense. The 27-year-old striker, who belongs to Flamengo, is away from Rubro-Negro’s activities for trying to cheat an anti-doping test.
If the suspensive effect is authorized, the attacker will still undergo a definitive trial this year to reevaluate the case. Gabigol’s punishment came into effect on April 8, 2023, the date of the surprise exam at Ninho do Urubu, which the attacker allegedly tried to defraud. As the sentence is two years, the number 10 is banned from playing until April 2025. In a statement, Flamengo said it received the decision with surprise and stated that it will assist the athlete in presenting an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) . The top scorer’s defense filed a request for a suspensive effect on the 2nd.
Gabigol is accused of making it difficult to carry out a surprise anti-doping test on April 8, 2023, at Ninho do Urubu. According to agents, he appeared upset since the anti-doping team arrived at the scene, around 8:40 am.
Those responsible for the exam allege that Gabigol did not address them before Flamengo’s training and also ignored them after the activity, going straight to lunch. They also claim that they were treated with disrespect by number 10, who became angry at several times.
With the exception of Gabigol, the other Flamengo athletes took the exam before training at 10am, which is recommended. Furthermore, the attacker committed other irregularities, such as going to the bathroom during the exam without the presence of one of the inspectors, in addition to handing over the pot without the lid.
