River – Grêmio and Internacional have not yet been able to assess the damage caused by floods in Rio Grande do Sul. However, this is not the priority of the clubs in Rio Grande do Sul. With activities suspended indefinitely, managers and players seek to help the victims of the tragedy.
Goalkeepers Rochet, from Internacional, and Caíque, from Grêmio, act on the front line to help the victims, as well as Colorado midfielder Thiago Maia and Grêmio center forward Diego Costa. They are helping to rescue people and animals or bringing supplies to shelters.
Only when the floods subside will the clubs be able to assess the damage. The training centers and stadiums of Grêmio and Internacional were taken by water. Arena do Grêmio and Beira-Rio are unlikely to return to normal operation in less than 30 days.
The CBF postponed the Grêmio, Internacional and Youth games until May 27th. It is likely that the entity will need to reschedule more matches for the trio. Conmebol also postponed the last two games of Grêmio, in the Libertadores, and Inter, in the Sul-Americana. There is no new date yet.
Understand the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul
In Porto Alegre, the waters of Lake Guaíba invaded the island region, streets of the Historic Center and the bus station. Salgado Filho International Airport suspended activities until the end of May. The water level exceeded the flood level, reaching 5.26 meters and surpassing the historic flood mark of 1941when it reached 4.76 meters. The flood limit is 3 meters.
The level of Guaíba, in Porto Alegre, dropped to 4.74 meters for the first time since Saturday (4), according to measurements made by the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA) at Cais Mauá. Even with the reduction, Guaíba remains more than 2 meters above the flood level. The water that advanced over the streets of the capital appears to be stable and even receding in some regions.
