The act temporarily blocked Estrada do Quitungo, near Rua Oliveira Melo, in Brás de Pinareproduction
According to preliminary information, the population was dissatisfied with the arrest of three young people from the community. In a video of the videos released, it is possible to see the protesters being removed from the scene by police officers from the 16th BPM (Olaria). The police were part of teams carrying out the action in the communities of Tinta, Quitungo and Guaporé with the aim of “curbing criminal movements and vehicle theft in the region”.
The shared records show a group of people shouting at the officers. “They’ve already fired shots into the air. They’re oppressing the resident,” says one of the people. Then, a woman shouts: “It’s the second resident you took. (…) everything bought, everything bought”, she shouted.
In another excerpt, a woman shouts: “Sabe a Alta”. The favela mentioned by the resident is neighboring Cidade Alta, which is part of Complexo de Israel, a community neighboring Quitungo and dominated by the Third Comando Puro (TCP) faction, while Quitungo is currently controlled by the militia.
According to preliminary information, the population is dissatisfied with the PM’s recent actions in the region, where two young people were taken away only this Thursday.
In a statement, the PM did not confirm any arrests. The corporation only informs that it was called for the demonstration and, during the movement, they received information that armed men had hijacked a bus to set the vehicle on fire and block the road where the protest was taking place. The criminals were surprised by the vehicle and fled into the community before completing the action.
“At the moment, the land has been stabilized and policing remains reinforced at the site.”, concludes a statement from the corporation.
