Gunshot hits window of Chicago Intrinsic Schools campus in Irving Park; nobody injured, school not on lockdown

CHICAGO — A window was shot Tuesday morning at a Chicago school.

According to Chicago police, just prior to 9:30 a.m., someone discharged a firearm in the 4500 block of West Belmont Avenue, near the Irving Park campus location of Chicago Intrinsic Schools.

The outer pane of a glass window at the school was struck, police say, but the shot did not penetrate the second layer of glass. No injuries were reported and nobody is in custody, according to police.

Intrinsic Schools CEO Melissa Zaikos also confirmed that nobody was injured and said only students in ninth and 10th grades were in the building Tuesday, taking PSAT tests.

Zaikos said the school did not go on lockdown, and police do not believe the school was the intended target. Zaikos also said all parents were notified and that students would be dismissed as they finish their PSAT tests.

Police continue to investigate and will be present as students leave the school after their tests.
