Historic attractions in São Paulo will be part of a Geopark documentary

São João da Barra – The historical, cultural, environmental and creative economy potentials of São João da Barra, where Porto do Açu (largest port complex in Latin America) is located, are now featured in a documentary by the Costões e Lagunas do Geoparque project Rio de Janeiro state.

The project management committee was in the municipality on Saturday (4) to learn about the attractions of historical, architectural and landscape values, aiming to produce a documentary, with a proposal to disseminate geodiversity, geoconservation and geotourism in the covered territory.

The Costões e Lagunas Geopark encompasses 16 municipalities; seeks to portray all the manifestations of each of them, emphasizing the surrounding communities, after being recognized and previously visited, studied and catalogued, as explained by the Manager of Heritage and Memory at the Municipal Department of Culture, André Pinto.

“São João da Barra participates in the project with two geological sites of international relevance, with the mouth of the Paraíba do Sul river and its coastal dynamics process and the Salgada Lagoon, with occurrences of primitive life and production of carbonate stromatolites”, points out André who accompanied the team during the recording of the documentary.

VARIOUS POINTS – Among the points focused on are Palácio Cultural Carlos Martins; Emperor Pier; Casa de Cultura João Oscar do Amaral Pinto, parish church of São João Batista; ruins of the Julinho building; Mouth of the Paraíba do Sul river; and Casa do Artesão Sanjoanense.

The production involves master in Geology Kátia Mansur (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ); master in hydrogeology Maria da Glória (Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense – Uenf); and a filming team, coordinated by director Ricardo Giaroli. The documentary will be presented to the UNESCO team, on a date yet to be defined.

According to André Pinto, São João da Barra will receive signs identifying the Geopark territory: “They will be placed on highways, just as they are already in cultural and creative economy spaces, such as Palácio Cultural Carlos Martins, Casa de Cultura João Oscar do Amaral Pinto, Derly Machado Arts Station and Casa do Artesão Sanjoanense”.
