New York area to host Cup final FIFA World Cup in 2026 after beating out contenders in Dallas and Los Angeles for the honor of hosting the world’s most-watched sporting event.
The decisive match will take place on the other side of the Hudson River at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, FIFA said. Accessible by train from midtown Manhattan, the stadium is home to the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets and has capacity for 82,500 people.
The final will make New York the center of the sporting world on July 19, 2026, when the match is scheduled to be played.
MetLife Stadium has recently hosted sold-out shows from pop superstars such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it also hosted a Super Bowl that was briefly the most-watched television event in American history.
