Formal employment in Mexico had the best April of the six-year term of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador by adding 84,857 places in the fourth month of this year, a record number, reported the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) this Monday, May 6.
In the historical ranking, the formal employment data in April 2024 is the fourth best only below 1998, 2002 and 2018.

IMSS data show that at the end of April 2024, there are registered 22 million 374 thousand 202 jobsof which, 86.1 percent are permanent and 13.9 percent are temporary.

In the last 12 months, an employment creation of 553,911 jobs was recorded, this increase being greater than the 547,232 average positions of the previous ten years considering comparable periods, and is equivalent to an annual rate of 2.5 percent.

The economic sectors with the highest annual percentage growth in insured work are that of transportation and communications with 7 percent; construction with 5.2 percent, and trade with 3.5 percent.
