In Zacatecas, 217 women renounce their candidacy – El Financiero

The political parties and coalitions in Zacatecas nominated 307 local deputies, of them 180 for the principle of Relative Majority (RM) and 127 for the principle of Proportional Representation (PR); 398 to Municipal Presidencies, 385 to receiverships and 4,172 to councilors, of which 2,275 are for MR and 1,897 for RP.

No complaints have been filed with the state or federal Prosecutor’s Offices, nor have there been any attacks against candidates and only three have requested protection, which has been attended to, he added.

In Zacatecas, an electoral process is being carried out in peace, reported the Secretary General of the Government, stating that, for 13 weeks, the Interinstitutional Operational Group has worked in a coordinated manner with the electoral authorities to guarantee security conditions.

The General Council of the IEEZ in a Session held on March 29, 2024, approved 9,292 candidacies for various popularly elected positions, of which 5,262 correspond to women and 4,030 to men.

The resignations have been from the following positions: 31 correspond to deputations, 21 for MR and 10 for RP; 17 correspond to Municipal Presidencies (12 owners and five substitutes); 24 to receiverships (15 owners and nine substitutes) and 145 to councilors, of which 124 are from MR and 19 from RP.

The candidates who have decided to resign correspond to the seven national political parties, the five local ones, and the three coalitions competing in the 2023-2024 Local Electoral Process.

In cases of resignations, regardless of the gender of the candidate who decides to withdraw, the political parties in which they registered must replace the candidates with the same gender of the person who decides to leave to maintain horizontal and vertical parity, that is, in the case In particular, no woman can be replaced by a man.

The procedure observed in substitutions due to resignation is that once it is presented, the candidate must ratify it and if the person who resigns is a woman is assisted by personnel from the Executive Directorate of Gender Parity in order to detect if the person is resigning voluntarily or for another reason.

To determine the reason for resignation, an anonymous survey is applied to identify, prevent and eradicate Political Violence Against Women based on Gender.

During its ratification, a guide is provided to identify if there is Political Violence Against Women based on Gender and, if necessary, the candidate is guided to present her complaint to the corresponding authorities.

It is important to note that during the Local Electoral Process 2020-2021, support was provided to 235 candidates who presented their resignation.

The period in which candidates can resign is until May 17, however, it will not appear in the electoral ticket the name of the people who replace a candidate who has resigned after April 12, 2024.
