Ipiranga Museum reaches 1 million visitors since reopening | Brazil

São Paulo, 29 – After a year and a half of reopening, the Ipiranga Museum, in São Paulo, reached the mark of 1 million visitors in recent days. “With one million visitors, we have a million stories that integrate and enrich the history of the new museum,” said the institution.

The site reopened to the public on September 7, 2022, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s Independence, after nine years closed to the public due to extensive renovations. During this period, the space doubled in size and the exhibition rooms quadrupled. Specializing in the history of Brazilian society, with an emphasis on material culture, the museum has a collection of around 30 thousand items, including paintings, photographs and posters, in addition to 25 thousand objects.

In total, the renovation and expansion cost around R$211 million, the highest amount ever raised from the private sector through the Culture Incentive Law. “The new museum has significantly expanded its public visitation, being able to receive an audience of over 500 thousand visitors per year. The long-term exhibitions, using the Museum’s collections, have been expanded and completely renewed”, said the institution, at the time .

Every Wednesday and the first Sunday of the month, entry is free, as well as on the São Paulo anniversary (25/1) and Independence (7/9) holidays. Tickets are distributed from 10 am, only on the date and without scheduling. Some audiences are free every day, as well as half-price access for specific groups.

Free days for the entire population:

– Access is free on Wednesdays, the first Sunday of each month and on São Paulo’s anniversary (25/1) and Independence (7/9) holidays;

– The ticket must be collected at the box office, on the date itself, without the possibility of booking via the website;

– Limited tickets, with the possibility of selling out in a short time.

Free for specific groups every day:

– Children under 6 years old;

– USP Community (staff, teachers and students);

– Servants of the Military Police, Civil Police and Technical-Scientific Police, of the State of São Paulo, in active service and their family members (spouse or partner, children and minors under guardianship or custody), with the latest pay slip and identification document;

– Benefit determined by resolution SC-39, of July 15, 2010;

– Accredited tour guides;

– Active members of ICOM.

– Tickets must be collected at the box office on the date of the visit. Tickets subject to availability.

Half-price entitlement:

– Students and professionals from the public education network across the country (teachers, coordinators, directors, supervisors and technical staff), with proof;

– Students can present their card from years after 2020, an updated student transport ticket or proof of enrollment, in addition to a photo ID;

– Professionals can present pay slips, paychecks, cards issued by the Ministry of Education or proof of the teacher’s portal;

– Students from the private education network across the country, using proof mentioned in the previous item;

– Elderly people over 60 years old, upon document;

– People with disabilities – PwD and their companion, upon presentation of a medical report;

– Low-income young people aged 15 to 29, registered in the ID Jovem program.

Paid ticket

To visit the museum, the ticket price is R$30 (in full), which can be purchased online through the Sympla platform. It is also possible to make a purchase directly at the box office, starting at 9am, with limited tickets.

“If the date is sold out on the platform, purchase directly at the box office, on the date of the visit. We have ticket quotas for purchases directly at the museum on all opening days. This offer is subject to availability, with the possibility of running out at peak times demand”, advises the museum.
