Good news for residents of the Vila Central neighborhood, in Japeri. The neighborhood’s Basic Health Unit (UBS) will receive renovation and expansion works. The order to start works was signed by municipal management last Friday (19/04).

Improvements to the unit, measuring approximately 270 square meters, include the revitalization of the entire site and the expansion of the reception. The space will gain another medical office, in addition to the two that already exist. A room for dental care, a storeroom and a medical archive will also be created.

The work also includes all replacement of floors, doors and maintenance of the electrical system and roof, painting and coverings. Another new feature is the adaptation to accessibility standards with the construction of a new PCD bathroom for people with disabilities. In addition to these services, the project includes landscaping and a renovated facade.

The service order was signed on the UBS premises by Mayor Dr. Fernanda Ontiveros, Secretary of Urbanism Andreia Brito and Undersecretary of Health Charles de Deus. The chief executive took advantage of her speech to reaffirm the municipal administration’s commitment to strengthening the health network and guaranteeing residents’ access to services. “This extensive reform is another step towards ensuring that all residents of the Vila Central neighborhood have a quality and humanized medical service. This act that we are doing here is an important investment that was already in our planning. I often say that health will never be a cost, but rather an investment. And this renovation that will be carried out here is what we want for all the health units in our city, in addition to the others that we are going to build”, she emphasized.

The director of the unit, Denise Fátima Gonçalves, spoke of the privilege of participating in the ceremony announcing a project that was long awaited by the population. “I’m excited. It is the beginning of a long-awaited project in the region. It’s a privilege. We have a large population that seeks us out. There are around a thousand people served per month and they deserve a cozy place. These are needy people who really need it,” she declared.

The equipment is the first in the city in the new standard of health units. With new colors, new architecture and compliance with Ministry of Health criteria. The UBS renovation and expansion project was carried out by the Municipal Department of Urbanism and Housing. The person responsible for the portfolio, Andreia Brito, also expressed her happiness at the handover ceremony. “I am very happy to be part of this important moment. It is a commitment of our management to the population. It’s a beautiful project, with landscaping and gardening. It will have a new reception, one hundred percent integrated with the unit, renovated and refrigerated offices that will bring better welcoming service to users and employees,” she highlighted.

The interventions will be made through parliamentary amendment resources from Senator Carlos Portinho and counterpart from the municipality. And while the unit is being renovated, services will be temporarily provided on Rua Calcutá, in the same neighborhood. Medical consultations, nursing guidance, family planning, preventive collection, blood pressure measurement, preventive collection, appointment scheduling, rapid testing, such as HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C, among others, are offered.

The meeting was attended by the mayor’s father, Dr. Carlos Ontiveros, vice-mayor Carlos Januário, Mayor Walter Trajano, Councilors Renan Schiavo, Rogerinho do RR and Cristiano Pingin, as well as municipal secretaries.

The health agent, Andreia do Carmo Mourão, 51 years old, made a point of talking about the improvements that the unit will bring to the residents. “This management is to be congratulated. It was only when the mayor came in that everything changed. She made the unhealthy situation which was another important step for us. I’m happy for this achievement”, she said.

Trader Fernanda Lopes, 23 years old, was happy with the news in the neighborhood. “I’ve been working on the UPA street for a year. I am a nursing technician and caregiver for the elderly. It’s great news, we needed this reform and new specialties, because we go to other neighborhoods to get care,” she said.
