Last Friday (26), Benjamin Deshon Provo, Kanye West’s former bodyguard, filed a complaint against the rapper. He says the international artist treats black employees “less favorably compared to their non-black colleagues.”

According to the security guard, West frequently yelled at and ridiculed black employees. In fact, Provo was dismissed when he chose to keep his dreadlocks after the singer asked him to remove them. Additionally, the rapper reportedly requested that business owners get rid of “books related to Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and other prominent figures in the black community.”

Furthermore, the former security guard denounced the salary disparity, stating that white employees received more than them. He claims the payment was reduced further after his complaint. Regarding his firing, he said Kanye requested that all security guards shave their heads. However, Provo’s dreadlocks would be related to his Muslim faith.

Through action against the artist, the former security guard is seeking compensation for moral damages due to allegations of discrimination, retaliation and violations of the labor code. Provo also seeks to be compensated for his legal fees and his complaint includes other details published by People magazine.
