Keg & Kernel in downtown DeKalb closing at the end of April

DEKALB, Ill. — A brewery in downtown DeKalb has announced it will close its doors later this month.

In a statement posted to social media, Keg & Kernel said its last day open will be April 28.

“It’s been an incredible journey, and we are immensely thankful for the unwavering support and love you’ve shown us throughout the years,” the statement read. “We’ve cherished every pint poured, every meal served, and every memory made within these walls. Your enthusiasm and patronage have been the heartbeat of our establishment, and for that, we are forever grateful.”

In a news release, the company said the decision to close came after careful consideration and evaluation of market conditions.

Tangled Roots Brewing Co., which owns Keg & Kernel, also owns The Lone Buffalo in Ottawa, Lock & Mule in Lockport and Hangar Two in Glenview.

The company also said it is planning to open several new locations in Vernon Hills, South Barrington and Washington later this year and in 2025.
