WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – There’s a Kennedy running for president, but the Kennedy family is going all in for President Joe Biden.
“That’s right,” Kerry Kennedy said at a Biden campaign event Thursday. “The Kennedy family endorses President Biden for president.”
Kerry Kennedy is the sister of independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the daughter of Bobby Kennedy.
“Daddy stood for equal justice, for human rights. Just as President Biden does today,” she explained.
“What a great honor,” Biden said.
At the event in Philadelphia, President Biden and the Kennedy family urged voters to fight against another Trump presidency.
Biden asked the crowd, “are you ready to move forward, not back?”
Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, spent the day in a New York City courtroom for the third day of his criminal trial.
His campaign says the endorsement is proof President Biden is running scared.
“He’s bleeding support from all sides,” Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “And RFK Jr. poses a grave threat to Joe Biden on the ballot because he pulls more Democratic voters than he does Republicans.”
Political analyst Todd Belt says the Kennedy endorsement should help President Biden.
“The Kennedys are as close as we have to as a royal family in the United States,” Belt said.
RFK Jr. responded to his family’s endorsement in a tweet saying he’s “pleased they are politically active.”
His campaign is celebrating other news. Battleground state Michigan announced it will allow his name to be on the presidential ballot this November.
