Less is Moynahan in Bridget’s reaction to Tom Brady roast

Tom Brady certainly showed a lot of concern for Robert Kraft’s feelings over a joke at the Patriots owner’s expense during Brady’s Netflix live roast special on Sunday night, but perhaps he should have saved that outrage for jokes at the expense of the mothers of his children — Bridget Moynahan and Gisele Bündchen. Both appear to be hurting from the highly-publicized insults, though Moynahan’s response is a bit more cryptic.

Moynahan made her first public appearance since the roast at a NYC 92nd St YMCA discussion for her Blue Bloods co-star Tom Selleck’s new memoir You Never Know. The actress appeared in good spirits at the event, but she did post a loaded message to Instagram which read “Loyal people take sh– more personal because they never would’ve did that sh– to you.” She then captioned the message with her own comment, “So true.”

Pretty sure she’s not talking about something from Tom Selleck’s memoir.

A source told People that Bündchen, meanwhile, is “deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show.” The source also added, “As always, [Bündchen’s] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted.”

Moynahan and Bündchen have every right to be mad. While the guest of honor at a roast is largely considered to be fair game for any quips made at his expense, the family of the roastee is another story. Roasters clearly made a decision to go after Tom Brady’s personal life at least as much as his professional life (if not more so).

That was a choice, but whether it was the right one or a fair one is open for debate. What really seems to be causing the stir is the fact that Brady smiled and chuckled through some pretty nasty personal insults directed at Bündchen and Moynahan, but the only time he seemed to get truly offended is when Roastmaster General Jeff Ross made a wise crack about Robert Kraft.

Ross joked that after Brady told Kraft drafting him in a late round would be the best decision the Patriots ever made, Brady asked Kraft “Would you like a massage?” It was a pointed reference to Kraft’s well documented 2019 arrest in a Florida prostitution investigation where he was allegedly captured on camera paying for sex acts at a massage parlor.

That certainly feels like fair game to be lampooned, but the jokes at Moynahan and Bündchen’s expense were in considerably poorer taste. Comedian Nikki Glaser delivered the first barb at Moynahan’s expense of the night when she said, “Tom, you’re the best to ever play for too long, you retired then came back then retired, I get it. …It’s hard to walk away from something that isn’t your pregnant girlfriend.”

Glaser then added, “To be fair he didn’t know, he just thought she was getting fat.” Brady and Moynahan famously broke up, and he began dating Bündchen, all before he knew Moynahan was pregnant. The two appear to have a strong co-parenting relationship though with their son, Jack.

Later, in character as Ron Burgundy, Will Ferrell had a Brady-Moynahan joke with the punchline, “The last time this guy went truly deep, he ended up paying child support to Bridget Moynahan.”

The Bündchen jokes meanwhile are too numerous to recount here. Maybe that’s why Bündchen was a little more public and less cryptic about her disappointment. It was a proportional response given the circumstances.

Bridget Moynahan‘s response to the jokes about her at the Netflix roast of Tom Brady may have been somewhat subdued and less direct, but everyone deals with public embarrassment in their own way — and it certainly shouldn’t be taken as a sign that she’s not also hurting from the barbs made at her expense.
