Madonna show generates unusual commerce such as cardboard for R$5 and VIP ‘playpen’ | Rio de Janeiro

Rio – Madonna’s show held at Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of Rio, this Saturday (4), revealed the Rio native’s creativity in making money in the midst of opportunities. In a video circulating on social media, a man appears offering cardboard for R$5. Close to the stage, vendors created a ‘playpen’ as a VIP area and sold places there for up to R$50.

Amidst the sun and temperatures of up to 36ºC, fans arrived in Copacabana early in the morning. Umbrellas, sarongs and water were the public’s main allies throughout the afternoon. Because of this, a man took the opportunity to sell cardboard to alleviate the heat. In the video, he appears shirtless and barefoot carrying several cardboards under his arm and fanning people.

Regarding the ‘playpens’, reports state that the vendors offered services such as waiters and a reserved area. The space was demarcated with sandbags and beer boxes.

During inspection, agents from the Public Order Secretariat and the Municipal Guard dismantled four of them in front of the stage. In the action, items such as glass bottles, styrofoam and various drinks were also seized.

Despite some irregularities, the pop diva’s show has boosted the local economy. At the event, there are sales of glasses, shirts, and various accessories related to Madonna.

According to Rio City Hall, the total turnover projection, which includes investments, economic turnover, sponsorships, transmission and infrastructure spending, is around R$300 million.
