Man arrested after women escape attempted sexual assaults in Lakeview

CHICAGO — Chicago police have announced the arrest of a man in connection with two separate attempted sexual assaults in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood, the department said Friday.

Jeremy Mack, 28, of Chicago, faces multiple felony counts of attempted sexual assault, aggravated battery, and public indecency after police say a woman escaped and another was rescued in two separate incidents Monday night.

According to police, Mack allegedly grabbed a 25-year-old woman from behind as she was walking in the 700 block of South Brompton Avenue around 9 p.m. He reportedly implied that he had a gun and told the woman not to turn around when he then attempted to assault her sexually, police said. The woman started screaming for help when neighbors came to her aid and helped her escape.

Mack fled the scene, police added. About 25 minutes later, Mack allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 23-year-old woman in the 800 block of West Buckingham Place, police said. After getting her to the ground, Mack reportedly made sexually explicit comments to her, but she was able to fight him off and get away.

Mack was due in court on Friday. Bond information was not made available by CPD.
