Maria da Penha Law in schools | Report of the Day

Published 04/25/2024 05:00

After the state public education network, now it is private schools that will include notions about legislation protecting women and against gender-based violence in the high school curriculum. This is what determines the program “Lei Maria da Penha Vai à Escola”, authored by deputy Márcio Canella (União) and which governor Cláudio Castro sanctioned. “Combating violence against women is a duty of all good citizens, especially domestic violence, and its dissemination cannot be restricted to public schools in our State,” said Canella. The law also authorizes the State Department of Education to prepare booklets on the topic in partnership with the State Undersecretary of Policies for Women and the State Council for Women’s Rights.

The councilor trusts the initiative: “I’m sure there will be sensitivity from the Chamber and Mayor Eduardo Paes regarding the demand for these birth photographers.” The City Council will open space for the exhibition of birth photos. The event will take place from May 20th to 26th, in the entrance hall of Palácio Pedro Ernesto, in Cinelândia, from 9am to 6pm.
