Mattresses, bed linen and towels: find out what to donate to victims in RS | Brazil

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul has expanded the list of items that can be donated to victims of the rains in the state.

What to donate

At this time, the most necessary items are new mattresses or those in good condition, bed linen, bathing suits, blankets, drinking water, animal feed and basic food baskets, preferably closed to facilitate transport.

Civil Defense reported that it is not currently receiving donations of shoes and clothing, medicines, furniture and household utensils, as the warehouses already have a large volume of these materials.

Donations can be taken to Central Logística, located at Avenida Joaquim Porto Villanova, 101, Jardim Carvalho, in Porto Alegre. In other states, donors should look for locations that are receiving materials in their cities.

Ready meals

In all affected municipalities, interested parties can contribute ready-made meals, as long as they are stored in lunch boxes. They will be aimed at vulnerable populations, volunteers and public agents.

However, the guideline is to contact the municipality’s Civil Defense in advance to prevent perishable food from spoiling and thus causing food waste.

Companies, civil society organizations and service groups that wish to send donations must contact us in advance by calling (51)3120-4255 to arrange the logistics for delivering the material.

Cash donations

Since Thursday (2), the SOS Rio Grande do Sul account, from Banrisul bank, has been reestablished by the government of Rio Grande do Sul to receive cash donations.

The state government informs that the resources will be fully used for humanitarian support for flood victims and for the reconstruction of the cities’ infrastructure.

Health volunteers

The volunteer bank of health professionals, coordinated by the State Department of Health, received registrations from 7 thousand professionals. Among those registered are doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, among others.

When filling out the form, volunteer data is made available to the management of municipalities and health institutions. If there is a need to replace or expand the workforce, professionals will be able to work in hospitals, emergency care units and other health services, according to the distribution made by the health department.

Volunteers must have available hours and be interested in helping affected municipalities. This registration does not guarantee the professional’s call, nor does it create an employment relationship with the state.
