May concert calendar: 10 of the best Chicago shows

CHICAGO —It’s almost summer concert season and I’m sure you have a few lined up.

Let’s take a look at the appetizer, May, and all of the good artists coming through the city.

5/5 — Porridge Radio (solo), Schubas

One of the most underrated bands in the world — Porridge Radio lead singer Dana Margolin stops by Schubas for a special solo show at the beginning of May.

5/8 — CSS, Lincoln Hall

Brazil’s CSS are returning back to the indie world for the first time in 11 years with the appropriately-titled “It’s Been a Number of Years Tour.”

Try not to dance to the track below, it’s impossible.

5/10 — Kasami Washington, Thalia Hall

If you’re looking to witness someone who is a master of the saxophone, go to a Kasami Washington show.

5/11 — DEVO, Riviera Theatre

One of the most famous progressive rock bands in history are wrapping up their farewell tour this year for their 50th anniversary. DEVO last played Chicago at Riot Fest in 2021.

5/15 — Sean Paul, Radius

Millennials will be filling up the relatively-new venue Radius in Mid-May to catch Sean Paul play classics like “Temperature.”

5/16 — Ride, Metro

It’s not every day you can walk around Wrigleyville and mosey on into the Metro to see one of the best shoegaze bands of all-time.

5/19 — Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, Salt Shed

Gary’s very own Freddie Gibbs is at the Salt Shed with his old collaborator Madlib. No doubt they’ll be playing many tracks off their cult classic 2014 album “Piñata.”

5/23 — Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Huntington Bank Pavilion

Neil Young returns to Chicago for the first time in six years, but this time around his iconic band Crazy Horse will there.

He was in the news recently for deciding to return his music to Spotify after a boycott.

5/24-25 — Passion Pit, The Vic

Michael Angelakos, the mastermind behind Passion Pit, thankfully is down with the trend of other 2000s-era big indie bands with album anniversary tours.

After coming to the city in 2019 for the 10th anniversary of the iconic Passion Pit debut “Manners,” he returns to the Vic for the 15th for a two-show run.

5/24-27 — LCD Soundsystem, Aragon

There’s nothing like a little residency and that’s exactly how LCD Soundsystem will be spending their Memorial Day weekend at the Aragon.
