During the morning, they chatted and held a quiz with the children and planted seedlings from the Atlantic Forest. The curiosities revolved around questions about the Earth and what everyone’s role is in taking care of it. During the conversation, it was highlighted that Gericinó Park plays an important role in preserving the Environment. By planting more seedlings and making children aware of this activity, they help the planet and build the future.
In the afternoon, students from EM Coronel Antonio Benigno Ribeiro participated in the Solos Itinerantes project, with a playful activity led by Geography professor, Sarah Lawall, from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ-IM). The students were separated into groups and painted different types of soil in Brazil on sheets of paper.
Benigno Ribeiro’s fourth-year student, Gustavo de Sousa Vale, aged nine, loved the trip. “I came to paint, see things here, hear the stories, see the forest too. I learned the history of the root, the clod and the rock too. I drew a rock because I like them.”
These actions aim to encourage children through art, teaching them how to conserve and preserve the soil and consequently the land. “With active, integrative and inclusive methodologies, any audience can participate, from children to the elderly, anywhere. We brought paint, a box to test sensitivity with different soil textures, story telling with our characters, memory games and other workshops according to public demand”, highlighted Sarah.
