The Australian Federal Court on Monday gave the platform 24 hours to remove videos in which an Assyrian bishop is stabbed during an attack in suburban Sydney. The Australian eSafety Commission sought the court order after X ignored requests to remove the videos.
Musk criticized the commission this Tuesday by stating that the content had already been removed for the platform’s users in Australia.
“We have already censored the content in question for Australia, pending legal recourse, and it is only stored on servers in the United States,” Musk posted on X.
He considers that Australia is trying to apply global censorship.
“Our concern is that if ANY country is allowed to censor content for ALL countries, which is what the Australian ‘eSecurity Commissioner’ is demanding, then what is to stop any one country from controlling the entire Internet,” the businessman added in a manner ironic.

The matter will return to court this week and a judge will decide whether to extend the temporary order.
A third hearing will then take place at which the eSecurity Commission will seek a permanent order to remove the videos and civil sanctions against the social network X, a spokesperson told AFP.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticized Musk, who he described as an “arrogant billionaire who thinks he is above the law.”
“The idea that someone would go to court to defend the right to publish violent content on a platform shows how out of place Mr Musk is,” Albanese told public channel ABC.
