Rio – A Brazilian Navy sub-officer died after being shot during an attempted robbery on Avenida Brasil, near Manguinhos, in the North Zone, on Thursday night (9). According to witnesses, Gutemberg Rossini Cardoso, 56, was on his motorcycle when he was approached by the criminals.
According to the Military Police, agents from the Pacifying Police Coordination/UPP Mandela were called by members of the public who reported that there was a motorcycle lying on the road, towards the Center, at footbridge 05, with a man on the ground. Arriving at the scene, the incident was confirmed and the soldier was taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The location was preserved and the case was registered at the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC).
According to the Civil Police, witnesses are interviewed and investigations are underway to determine who committed the crime and clarify all the facts.
On social media, Gutemberg collected photos with his motorcycle. Friends mourned the death. “I received very sad news, a great friend and brother in arms has just died in an attempted robbery on Avenida Brasil. May our good God comfort everyone in the family!”, said one comment.
“Sad news for the naval family, rest in peace brother. I can’t believe it,” said another.
So far, there is no information about the burial.
