New Folkestone harbour arm play park opening date revealed

An opening date has been revealed for a new play park on a popular Kent beach.

Plans for this latest addition to Folkestone’s seafront near the harbour arm were approved in December.

Developers behind the project say they hope to have it fully open by mid-June.

Planning was secured for eight years, and a temporary structure was put in place before a more permanent version could be built later.

The horseshoe-shaped park will be embedded into the shingle alongside the timber boardwalk that runs across the pebbles.

It will be the first play area in the harbour area. The next closest, based at the Lower Leas Coastal Park, was was cordoned off earlier this year after landslides hit the area.

The Folkestone harbour area has already seen several new additions this year, including in the Goods Yard, where seven businesses opened their doors in March.

Bosses behind the play park project hope it will bring a new dynamic to an already “very popular” visitor attraction, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people every year.

In a statement, Paulo Kingston-Corria, general manager of Folkestone Harbour & Seafront Development Company, said: “We’re proud to be developing a new play park on Folkestone seafront, located just opposite our extremely popular adventure golf course.
