New 'The Office' picked up by Peacock, set at Midwest newspaper

CHICAGO — NBC Universal’s streaming service, Peacock, has ordered a brand new series of the beloved sitcom, ‘The Office.’

But don’t call it a reboot or a spin-off. The sequel will be without Jim, Pam, Michael, and the rest of The Office crew at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.

Bummer (that’s what she said).

Variety reports the show will focus on a publisher trying to revive a dying Midwest newspaper.

Actor Domhnall Gleeson and actress Sabrina Impac-Ciatore could star in the project. Greg Daniels, who developed the American version of ‘The Office,’ is co-creating the show. Production starts in July.

Last year, several ‘The Office’ cast members appeared at a Navy Pier fan convention. Guests included Rainn Wilson (Dwight), Brian Baumgartner (Kevin), Kate Flannery (Meredith), David Koechner (Todd), Matt Jones (Zeke), and Creed Bratton, who played a fictionalized version of himself on the sitcom.

‘The Office’ aired on NBC for nine seasons, with breakout star Steve Carrell appearing in the series’ first seven. The show ended in 2013. Peacock subscribers can stream the series in its entirety.
