Niterói – The 2024 edition of the Niterói School Games received a record number of registrations: more than 6,000 students from 83 schools in the city will participate in the competition, which is one of the biggest school tournaments in Brazil. The objective is the integration between the most diverse schools in the city, with the participation of municipal, state and federal networks and private schools, and the encouragement of sports. This year, JEN has another new feature: a new under 10 category, for students under that age. The opening of JEN 2024 is scheduled for April 26, while competitions are expected to begin at the end of May. The event is organized by Niterói City Hall, through the Education and Sports and Leisure departments.
In addition, there will be “Jenzinho” for children aged 8 to 10, which will feature 4 sports: basketball, futsal, volleyball and handball.
For the Secretary of Education and president of the Municipal Education Foundation, Bira Marques, the increase in the number of registrations is the result of an investment in the area of sport in Education in Niterói. “We are increasingly encouraging our young people to play sports. This year, we will open a sports training center in Barreto, where Network students will be able to improve even further in the sport they choose. With all this investment in our teams, I am sure that the Niterói Municipal Education Network will emerge even more victorious from this championship”, he highlighted.
According to the municipal secretary of Sports and Leisure of Niterói, Rubens Goulart, one of the reasons for the success of the School Games comes from the dedication of school directors, sports coordinators and teachers, who value competition, and the dialogue with the organization of Games. “The realization of ‘Jenzinho’ and the inclusion of the fifth category will help to include increasingly younger children in sports and pre-sports activities, thus being able to serve schools that work only with the first educational segments. It is also necessary to highlight public investments and private partnerships in obtaining the best sports spaces, which influence this cycle of success”, he highlights.
