North Korea has tested a “super-large warhead” designed for a strategic cruise missile, state news agency KCNA announced on Saturday (19).

The vehicle also reported, on Friday afternoon, “a new type of anti-aircraft missile in the Yellow Sea. The two tests are part of “the regular activities of the administration and its affiliated defense scientific institutions”, KCNA reported, adding that the tests “have no bearing on the current situation.”

Although it has been subject to international sanctions since its second nuclear test in 2009, North Korea has continued its nuclear and weapons development program. In recent months, it has increased its aggressive rhetoric against South Korea, which it has declared to be its “main enemy”, and threatened war if its territory is violated.

Seoul has hardened its position towards Pyongyang since the coming to power in 2022 of President Yoon Suk Yeol, who has multiplied military maneuvers with the United States and Japan.
