Nuisance drivers targeted in PSPO crackdown across Ebbsfleet, Chatham and Gillingham

Nuisance drivers have been told not to return to a park after causing a “persistent hazard” to other road users and making excessive noise.

Police have been called to multiple areas across north Kent following a series of issues involving cars and anti-social activity.

Officers were sent to Ebssfleet on Friday (April 19) where motorists were meeting in the Castle Hill area.

These drivers were said to be making an excessive amount of noise and being an obstruction to other road users.

Police also attended Platinum Jubilee Park in Swanscombe where they stopped 13 people and took their details. The group was spoken to and told to leave and never return.

A similar issue was also attended in Medway on April 14 where anti-social behaviour involving off-road bikes was reported.

Police, along with staff from Medway Council scouted green spaces across Chatham and Gillingham to spot anyone riding recklessly, without insurance, and/or not displaying a licence plate

During the day officers spoke to several people, including some who were seen unloading off-road vehicles in preparation to use them on footpaths and open spaces.

A bike was also seized in Hoo after it was reported to have been used antisocially.

Several Section 59 warnings were issued to motorists which will see their bikes seized if they are seen causing a nuisance with their vehicles again.

Both Medway and Dartford are areas protected under a public space protection order (PSPO) following issues with boy racers in both Crossways Boulevard and the Medway City Estate.

The PSPOs have been introduced in both areas to tackle antisocial behaviour and includes restrictions such as driving in a convoy, racing, performing stunts, revving engines, wheel spinning, and playing music.

Inspector Mick Hayes said: “Both PSPOs have been introduced following public consultations and we will continue to work closely with the council to ensure the order is enforced.

“We do not underestimate the impact that ASB can have on those working, living and visiting an area and we will continue to tackle this issue proactively.”
