Our democracy is truly at stake
I’m writing to refute a recent letter from April 25. As a retired Air Force officer, I think that the author is wrong in his support of Trump and his asserted reasoning. We did not have the respect of the international community under Trump; he was/is considered a joke (except by a few dictators). We were not better off as a nation. Oddly, the author forgets that over one million Americans died due to Trump’s poor response to the pandemic (with the exception of initiating the vaccine development). Plus, Trump actively sought to overturn a free and fair election. Claims that the election was stolen are lies, pure and simple, as shown in 50+ court cases in 2021. I do agree with the author on one point: We should all work to become part of the solution, not the problem. How? Develop useful critical thinking skills. Volunteer to help others, and work to encourage all eligible voters to vote in the upcoming general election. Our democracy is truly at stake.
