Out of ‘fear’, 308 people resign from being poll workers in Tabasco – El Financiero

The executive member of the National Electoral Institute (INE) in TabascoElizabeth Tapia Quiñones, rejected that 8 thousand polling station officials have resigned in the state for fear of insecurityAs the national leader of the PAN recently stated, Marko Cortes.

“One month before the election, the violence and crisis experienced in the country put the electoral process at risk. According to the INE, in Tabasco more than 8 thousand polling station officials have resigned due to insecurity, which represents almost 30% of those needed to install the total number of polling stations,” the PAN member published on his networks.

In response, Tapia Quiñones said that, indeed, that number of substitutions has occurred, but less than four percent are directly related to the manifestation of fear about possible acts of violence on election day.

“Regarding what has been pointed out about the resignation of some polling station officials due to insecurity issues, I would like to specify that this figure is inaccurate, to say the least, our total number of substitutions so far is around 8,784 ”, he detailed.

He said that this includes 612 who were impossible to locate, 88 with some legal impediment, 148 due to regulatory impediments, 2,051 who were for health reasons, 3,684 for work reasons and 2,196 who can be classified as rejections.

“We have a cause that is 40, which is referred to as fear of participatingin that case We have 308 people registered throughout the state as this cause to not participate, and it seems to me that there is a lot of difference between 308 and more than 8 thousand,” he expressed.

He also maintained that there is coordination with the state government, the Army, National Guard and Marina, to “shield” the process and guarantee a calm vote.
