Parque da Cidade receives improvements, with more accessibility and impact on tourism | Niterói

Niterói – Parque da Cidade is one of the most sought after heritage sites by residents, visitors and tourists. It is among the three most visited facilities in Niterói, MAC, Parque da Cidade and Fortaleza de Santa Cruz. In summer, the Park is the most visited. The average number of visitors to the Park, including tourists, reaches 300 thousand per year. On a day-to-day basis, Parque da Cidade, with the largest number on weekends, receives visitors from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. The majority of international tourists from other countries are from Argentina. , France and the United States.

Neltur maintains a Tourist Assistance Center (CAT) in Parque da Cidade, which is open from Tuesdays to Fridays, from 10am to 4pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm. Parque da Cidade has a new look, following restoration and infrastructure works. Among the interventions are accessibility improvements, lighting improvements, in addition to revitalizing the site’s landscaping. The Park’s landscaping received special attention, with the planting of 11,835 seedlings of different species of trees, shrubs and groundcovers. It also gained a new living space with benches and a wooden deck for visitors. The result is a naturally welcoming environment. The objective is to consolidate the space as an ecologically conscious and accessible tourist destination.

The work carried out in Parque da Cidade was funded by the Ministry of Tourism, via Niterói City Hall through Neltur, in a Parliamentary Amendment by Federal Deputy Laura Carneiro.

Mayor Axel Grael highlighted the work being carried out by the Municipal Department of the Environment and Neltur with the improvements to the City Park. “We are building Niterói as a reference for a sustainable city that can showcase, contribute, collaborate and exchange experiences with other cities so that we can move forward on the path to sustainability. The park is beautiful and we have done what is necessary to make this place increasingly valued. We are betting on Niterói’s tourist potential and improving spaces to create opportunities for economic development and also leisure”, highlighted the Mayor, who highlighted the importance of qualifying tourists who arrive in Niterói and which has been changing the profile of the passing visitor who he had little interaction with the culture, equipment and hotel and gastronomic hubs. “The president of Neltur, André Bento, operates from the perspective of a tourist present in a sustainable city, focused on Ecotourism”, stated Axel.

The President of Neltur, André Bento, states that the park is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the city and a symbol of ecotourism and paragliding. “Every investment in the city’s heritage has an impact on tourism. We will continue investing in the city’s tourist infrastructure, whether through City Hall or public partnerships or with the private sector, to better serve the city’s residents and tourists. Niterói, today, is an example of a sustainable municipality with more than 56% of preserved green areas, a base for ecotourism”, analyzed Bento. And he added: “The improvements made to the Park’s infrastructure have an even greater impact on the presence of tourists, who are amazed by the landscape, the paragliders and the path to several trails. In addition to all this beauty of the place, the Park has become a great point for the magic of the sunset. Mayor Axel Grael’s guidelines are to make Niterói a model of a sustainable city, which attracts more and more tourists who are attuned to ecotourism practices.”
