The Federal Police (PF) will investigate the installation of hidden cameras found in an apartment belonging to federal deputy Dayany Bittencourt (União-CE), in Brasília. The case was already being investigated by the Civil Police of the Federal District, after the equipment was found hidden among water triggers and smoke sensors, in 2023.

The PF’s entry into the case was determined by the interim Minister of Justice and Public Security, Manoel Carlos de Almeida Neto, after meeting with the parliamentarian.

In the letter, Almeida Neto cites “alleged crimes of home invasion and unauthorized registration of privacy, committed against the deputy during the exercise of her mandate and political activity”.

Audiovisual records

The cameras were found by the parliamentarian’s advisors in an apartment she rented in Asa Norte, in August last year. In addition to four spy cameras, there were microphones, internet cables and a DVR recording device and a modem on site. According to the PF, it was possible to extract 164,325 audiovisual records from the device.

“Throughout the preliminary investigations, reports and expert examinations were produced, people were identified, qualified and heard in terms of statements. After approximately eight months, the examination carried out on the DVR recorder confirmed that the cameras were fully operational, but did not clarify whether the images were accessed remotely. The focus of the Federal Police will be on the image recorder found in the apartment”, detailed the PF.
