Rio – Police officers from the Police Station for the Repression of Crimes Against Intangible Property (DRCPIM) seized, this Tuesday (7), 80 counterfeit plush machines installed in shopping malls in the city of Rio and in São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense. In addition, 15 thousand “pets” were seized. According to investigations, there is a possibility that the devices could be used by a gambling organization.
The action was called “Operation Mãos Leves”. Agents suspect that the machines’ devices are programmed to allow the prize to be captured only after a certain number of plays. If the situation is confirmed, the situation will be characterized as a misdemeanor of gambling exploitation.
During the action, 80 machines were sealed by the teams and 15,000 stuffed animals were seized. The devices will undergo inspection. Regarding the prizes, specialized police officers found counterfeit registered trademarks.
Those responsible for the establishments were taken to DRCPIM to provide clarification, but there was no record of prisoners.
According to the Civil Police, investigations continue to determine the possible involvement of a criminal organization in the exploitation of the activity, as well as the practice of money laundering.
