Asked about the fact that the inn does not have a Fire Prevention and Protection Plan (PPCI) and therefore, according to the firefighters, it operates irregularly, the mayor stated that, by law, it is up to the company owner to regularize it.
“I’m not going to comment on this, out of respect for those who we have a lot of affection and respect for, which are the firefighters. This PPCI issue is up to the company that opens, be it any activity”, stated the mayor of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
Melo lamented the fire once again: “Today is a day of deep sadness because Porto Alegre lost 10 of its children in this tragedy. Since dawn we have worked to welcome victims into the hospital and assistance network, and provide dignified burial for those who lost loved ones .
We determined that the situation of all shelters and inns should be investigated in order to take measures within 10 days”, he said.
The report tries to contact the owners or those responsible for the inn so that they can comment on the PPCI issue.
Shortly before the press conference, Melo declared three days of mourning in the municipality due to the deaths.
Also present at the press conference, the municipal secretary of Health, Fernando Ritter, updated the data on those hospitalized due to the fire. According to him, 15 injured people were taken to hospital via the Unified Health System.
Of these 15, two remain in serious condition, five remain in care, but without risk of death, and seven were released on Friday, the 26th. In addition, one injured person was taken for treatment at a private hospital.
