Post office receives donations for victims of rains in Rio Grande do Sul | Brazil

Post offices in the states of São Paulo and Paraná, in addition to part of the units in Rio Grande do Sul, will receive, starting this Monday (6), donations for the victims of the heavy rains that fell in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and caused deaths, left people homeless, injured and missing, in addition to various losses and damage to local infrastructure. The state-owned company will transport donations free of charge, at no cost to donors.

According to the state Civil Defense, a partner institution of Correios in this action, the necessary donations are non-perishable food from the basic food basket, personal hygiene products, dry hygiene material and clothing items. The Post Office will donate scrap objects that were in its custody. These are orders that have gone through all delivery attempts to the recipients, were not contacted by them, nor by the senders and have already exceeded the 90-day deadline for complaints provided for in the Consumer Protection Code. In this case, the homeless in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul will receive clothing items and household items.

In the city of Santa Maria, Correios provided trucks and employees to assist the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul.

The president of Correios, Fabiano Silva dos Santos, states that the initiative fulfills the public company’s obligation to contribute to facing the crisis situation in Rio Grande do Sul. “We are putting our logistics structure at the service of the population, acting in all ways forms that the National Civil Defense and the state request”.

In Rio Grande do Sul, donations can be delivered to central agencies in 39 municipalities: São Borja, Santo Ângelo, Santa Rosa, Canoas, Esteio, Sapucaia do Sul, São Leopoldo, Novo Hamburgo, Campo Bom, Sapiranga, Parobe, Taquara, Montenegro, Pelotas, Rio Grande, Camaqua, Bagé, Jaguarão, São Lourenço do Sul, Anta Gorda, Arvorezinha, Butia, Cachoeira do Sul, Charqueadas, Estrela, Foutoura Xavier, Guaporé, Ilopolis, Mato Leitão, Nova Brescia, Pântano Grande, Rio Pardo, Salto do Jacuí, Santa Cruz do Sul, Sobradinho, Teotoania, Taquari, Venancio Aires and Vera Cruz.

As of Friday (3), of the total of around 400 post offices in the state, 86 were inoperative due to flooding caused by heavy rains. A multidisciplinary team has been working to normalize services in the affected units.

Customers can seek information about operations through the Customer Service Center, by calling 0800 725 0100, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.
